Portland, Oregon
Good times with friends and family!
Sunday 30 November 2008 at 12:01 am.I head up to Portland to see my Dad every year for Thanksgiving. It's a nice vacation to relax, spend time with family, and eat lots of turkey. Recently, my Dad moved into a new house in northwest Portland. It was a pretty cool place that he spent a lot of time renevating. As I got picked up at the airport I was greeted by a new puppy. It was a half jack russel and half chihuahua. It was pretty sweet! Totally mellow and pretty smart too. I'm not much of an animal person but this little guy was sweet. The Thanksgiving meal was nice and so was spending time with my Dad, sister, and Chris.
The next day my old roommate Mike, who moved to Portland less than two weeks earlier, picked my sister and myself up from my Dad's place about 10 minutes from downtown. We went back to his place and checked out his place and his view, he's on the 11th story. Lindsay, my other old roommate was working at her new job buffalo wild wings, so we went by and said hello. She was just getting off, she we stayed for a couple drinks. After a little while, Mike and I left the girls behind and took the Max to the Rose Garden to see the Blazers play the Hornets. It took a while to get into our seats since they were in the very last row of the building. Our backs were against the wall! The seats weren't bad because its a small venue but they definitely could be better. During the first half Mike and I scope out four seats about five rows back from the basket. At halftime they were still empty so we grab a couple beers and see if we can sneek into them. We are able to waltz right by the security lady who was talking to someone else and plop down five rows from the court! We're thinking no way are we going to be able to watch the rest of the game from here. Who wouldn't show up if they had these tickets? We felt like big shots, especially since we went from the last row in the building to the 6th! It was a sweet game. The Blazers beat the Hornets by 15 points and we got free Chalupa's since the Blazers scored over 100 points. I don't go to many basketball games, but that experience definitely makes me want to go to more.
After the game, we jump back on the Max (their public transportation), which is FREE in the downtown area! We meet up with the girls at the Shanghai Tunnel Bar. After one PBR, we head over to the Pearl District and check out this place called Jake's Famous Crawfish. This is a nice restaurant and after 11pm for happy hour you can get a great meal for $1.95! I had a blackened chicken sandwich with french fries. Yep for $1.95, amazing! Then we went to Paddy's Bar. If you're an always sunny in philadelphia fan like me, you'll appreciate Paddy's Bar. We didn't see Mac, Dennis, Charlie, Frank or Sweet Dee but the place was pretty cool. It had a huge wall of alcohol, think Mac's Market in IV, the bartender had to use a ladder to get the drinks down. After that we walked back to their place and crashed. Portland's downtown was super easy to get around, easy to walk and free public transportation. I had a lot of fun it's definitely a place I would recommend checking out.
On Saturday, we woke up and went to a little cafe on the harbor front. Then spent the rest of the day with family. One Sunday we went winetasting in Oregon. We checked out a few wineries and sipped on a few wines. That was pretty fun. On the way back we saw a buffalo ranch, and if you know me, you'll know that we stopped and picked up some buffalo! Later Sunday night, Shelley wanted to meet up with an old co-worker who lives in Portland. We cruised to Slobtown, or something like that, and I had a beer and a game of pac man and left Shelley with her friends and went to hang out with Mike and Linds at their place. Everyone at the bar was really nice though. On Monday, as a family we went to go get a Christmas tree. It was a cut your own tree place, which is fun, because you get to walk around a Christmas tree farm and pick out the perfect one. It's also cheaper and you get a fresher tree. That night we invited Mike and Linds over for buffalo burgers, which were amazing, and buffalo steaks, um, also amazing! We left the parents behind and checked out a bar called McMenemins-Edgefield. It was an old huge estate turned bar, restaurant, and hotel. It was kinda creepy a night, especially since it was kind of in the middle of nowhere.
Shelley left early Tuesday morning and I left later that day. I slept in, chainsawed, and chopped some wood and then called it a day. It was a really fun trip but I was ready to get home and see my beautiful girlfriend Mallory! Thanks to Mike and Linds to showing me and my sister a great time!

So, you never call or visit your southern family? Hmmmm. Oh well, love you anyway. Glad all is well. Call sometime! See, that is what motherly guilt is all about! LOL!
