Living the HiLife
Meet me at the Goose!
Tuesday 31 March 2009 at 1:46 pm.This past weekend my girlfriend Mal wanted to head up north check out the University of Santa Clara. I hadn’t been to the bay since new years and additionally it was my boy Russo’s birthday weekend so I thought it would be a great time to return. We drove up Friday after work and made it to San Jose by 9. That night we drank some brew dogs and caught up with each other.
The next day we went to Togo’s for lunch, which is my favorite sandwich place. I recommend, and always get for myself, the #24 - turkey and avocado. Then we walked all around the campus. It’s really nice there, and since Russo went there for a year back in the day he knew his way around. The highlight of the tour was stopping by the scene of where he and a couple guys fought about 10 san jose state guys, and where he got headbutted in the face. You don’t ever hear about too many good headbutting stories, but that was definitely one. After the campus tour we went back to Russo and Wakey’s (his fiance`) place and relaxed for a while. We watched Bolt on his huge tv and it was pretty good. Later, we played a little whiffle ball and basketball too.
That night I wanted to hit up this restaurant called Henry’s Hi Life near the Shark Tank. It was featured on Man Vs Food a few weeks ago, and ever since I’ve wanted their world famous ribs! This place did not disappoint. Ok, so you walk in and take a number. After they call your number you place your order. Their menu is simple, steaks, chicken, and ribs. After they take your order and name, you hang around in the bar area. We consumed a couple miller hi lifes (of course!) while waiting. Then they called our names and sat us. Our salads were already up and the ribs were on the way. I haven’t eaten a lot of ribs the past few years, mostly because of my former state of braces, so boy was I excited when the ribs were placed in front of me. They were huge! They smelled delicious, and the meat just fell right off the bone! I was so stuffed. I have to hand it to Russo, he ate his steak and half of Wakey’s ribs. Nice work man.
Afterwords we went back to their place and let the food digest. Another good friend Brown came down to SJ and we drank a little bit before heading to the good old Goosetown. The place is ridiculous. Part dive bar, part karaoke bar, and just absolutely packed. By the end of the night, Russo convinced me to sing Green Day’s ‘Basketcase’ with him, just like we did the last time I was there. Coincidentally, for his last birthday. But Mal and Wakey stole the show with their rendition of ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’. Way to go… ladies!
It was a great weekend. It was awesome to see Russo, Wakey, and Brown. This weekend I am looking forward to just relaxing in SB after being out of town the past three.
