Scotch and Cigars
I love Scotch, here it goes down, down into my belly.
Thursday 29 October 2009 at 5:15 pm.It was been way too long since my last post. And as I’m sure as you can guess, a lot has transpired. I’d like to begin with my recent interest in the finer things in life. I’m talking about Scotch and Cigars.
It seems like only yesterday, when in reality it has been more like 6 months when my roommate and I decided that we need to begin living a life of leisure. So what could we do? We already live in Santa Barbara, a pretty leisurely town. I ride my bike leisurely to work. I wear leisurely clothes like tank tops and flippy floppies. Could our lives really become more leisurely? Yep, we discovered the pleasures of a fine cigar and a nice glass of scotch.
At the end of a bar-be-que, which we called the first annual Leisure Sunday BBQ, we finished off our night with some scotch and a cigar. Early on, our favorite cigar was a Churchill. Made famous by Winston Churchill of course. Recently, we’ve come to love a nice vintage cameroon. Mild in flavor and a perfect compliment to some scotch.
We almost always drink a single malt, but dabble into the blended variety, such as Famous Grouse or Johnny Walker. However, when it comes to single malts Macallan is the standard. What a great scotch. This is our go to, which we always have on hand. Both the 10 year (oak cask) and the 12 year (sherry) are absolutely fantastic. Glenlivit is decent, but I’ll take a pass on Glenfiddich. The Balvenie has a nice a double wood 12 year, it begins the aging process in oak, and is finished in a sherry cask. More recently, we’ve discovered Glenmorangie, and wow! Absolutely a fantastic 10 year for the price! I’m looking forward to discovering and enjoying more Scotch as I myself age!
If anyone out there has a favorite Scotch or cigar, please post to comments and I’ll give them a try. Well, anyways, I’d better get back to my leisurely life, all this typing is making me thirsty.
